Nagaur city is located in the middle of Rajasthan. It is surrounded with Jodhpur, Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, Jaipur, Ajmer and Pali districts of Rajasthan.
From nagaur, Bikaner in the north to the border of Punjab, this entire area was called as ‘Jangladesh’ in ancient times till a very late period. Later this town came under the Jat rulers of Naga clan, after that the this town got the name ‘Nagaur’ (Naga-pura). After that this territory came under the powerful Chauhan clan.
After 1306 AD it was ruled by turkish rulers Khiljis. Later many Rajput and mughal rulers also ruled here.
Nagaur remain under the mughals, but was actually administrated by the near by Rajputs till the time of Aurangzeb. After that Ajit Singh the son of dead Maharaja Jaswant singh totally annexed Nagaur under Jodhpur state. In 1755 Jai Appa Sindhiya (king of Gwalior) attacked Nagaur, then the king of Jodhpur sent some brave volunteer to kill Jai Appa and thus Nagaur got free from him. After the independence of India Nagaur qas declared as district of Rajasthan.
According to census 2011 the total population of Nagaur is 33,07,743 of which the male population is 16,96,325 where the female population is 16,11,418, where the growth rate in comparison with the census 2001 is 19.20%. Density of this place is 187 people per kilometre square. Sex ratio of it is 950 females per 1000 males. Average literacy of Nagaur is 62.80% of which the male literacy 77.72% and female literacy is 47.82%.

Nagaur fort is the witness of the wars which was faught between the rulers to capture this town. The splendid art on the mahals including the Deepak mahal inside the fort will make you feel like you are living the royal era.
Jain glass temple is entirely made of glass. The frescos made on the glass and the marble is just fabulously beautiful.
Tarkeen dargah, Amar Singh’s Cenotaph, Kuchaman city, Merta, Khatu, are some another places to visit in and near Nagaur.
