In the eastern part of Rajasthan, there is a small but glorious town Karauli is located. It comes under Bharatpur division. It is surrounded by Dholpur, Bharatpur, Sawai madhopur, Dousa and also shares east-south border with Madhya-pradesh.
This town was established by King Bijai Pal, a Jadon Rajput and was a part of Matsya union including Dholpur, Alwar, Bharatpur till the Independence of India. After the independence of India all these towns of Matsya union was included in Rajasthan state as districts, but Karauli was included in the Sawai madhopur district. On 1st march 1997 Karauli was declared as the 32 district of Rajasthan state.
According to census 2011 total population of Karauli is 14,58,248 of which the male population is 7,83,639 and the female population is 6,74,609. Where the density of Karauli is 264 persons per kilometres Square. The sex ratio of Karauli is 861 females per 1000 males. Average literacy of it is 66.22% of which the male literacy is 81.41% where the female literacy is 48.61%.

Kaila devi temple is located 23 km away from the city and is one of 9 shaktipeeth of goddess Durga. It is said that this temple is established in 1100 AD and is dedicated to Shri Kaila devi ji. On navratra devotee from far places come here.
Timangarh fort is located in Masalpur sub-tehsil if Karauli and was built in 1100 AD, but was destroyed in an attack in 1244 AD. The beautful stone idols, artistic sculptures and frescos on the rooftops will catch your eyes.
Keladevi wildlife sanctuary is an extension of the Ranthambhore national park. Banas and Chambal rivers flows from the western tip of the sanctuary.
Madan mohan temple, Kalyani ji temple, Ramarth fort, Bhanwar Vilas palace, city palace are some another places of Karauli which are famous for their majestic looks.
