Mandore was the capital of the erstwhile princely state of Marwar(Jodhpur) before shifting of capital to present city of Jodhpur where new rulers constructed Mehrangarh fort. Jodhpur is an important tourist destination in Rajasthan state in NW India.

Mandore is an ancient town, and was the seat of the Pratiharas of Mandavyapura, who ruled the region in the 6th century CE. The rulers of this dynasty probably became vassals of the imperial Gurjara-Pratiharas. After the disintegration of the Gurjara-Pratihara empire, one branch of Pratiharas continued to rule at Mandore. In 1395 CE, a princess of this branch married Rao Chunda of Rathore clan. Rao Chunda received the Junagarh fort in Mandore in dowry, and moved his capital to the site. The town remained the Rathore capital until 1459 CE, when Rao Jodha shifted his capital to the newly founded city of Jodhpur. After new city came into being the old the old city and garden remained abandoned for many decades. But when Ajit Singh sat on throne in 1707 he started renovation of the garden.
This garden is located at a distance of 8 kilometers from city centre. It is situated along foot hills of a sandstone plateau which adds to its beauty. Rain water harvesting was done in old times so lush plantation survived the harsh desert conditions. A small rivulet also passes through this place which also serves as water storage. Area of garden is about 1600 meters x750 meters. The most important part of this garden is its greenery which surprises any visitor considering that Jodhpur is part of Indian desert.
This place has many other spots of interest, 1st is ruins of old Mandore fort, a museum, temple of Lord Bheru, Ek thambha mahal, temples with beautiful carvings, cenotaphs of deceased rulers of Jodhpur and a hall of heroes which has statues of local warriors, fold god ,goddesses. There is separate area for recreation of children.
Garden is surrounded by residential colonies and markets having 2 dozen shops providing tea, snacks and other food items including the famous Pyaaz ki kachori of Jodhpur. One can also get eatables in cafeteria inside the garden.
Since this is popular tourist spot public transport from city to this area is available from 6 AM in morning to 11 PM in evening. This locality is part of city municipal corporation so private transport is also available 24×7.
Jodhpur is well connected with Mumbai –Delhi through daily flights, it is also connected with all parts of India by way of national highways and express trains. This place is a must for any traveller coming to Jodhpur.
